Shoes. I need new pairs of shoes. See, my flats had been victorious with their fight against Pedring, Quiel and recently, Ramon (FYI: They are the typhoons that recently hit he country). These battles weren’t easy for them. Just like any other warrior, winning a battle doesn’t mean you always come out strong, your body may come out weary and weak and kung minsan nawawalan ka ng isang body part… or two… (Ouch!) That’s what happened to my shoes. Tsk tsk… Yes, I need to buy a new one.
I was ready to buy that most elusive pair of red shoes when my mom called. Needs money+Immediate = No budget for NEW shoes this time (Another Ouch!). I was going through my usual mababaw emo moment when GOD reminded me of this joke Ptr. BOng Saquing shared in one of our Sunday service:
May babae nakasakay sa isang jeep. Habang nasa jeep, nag-iisip siya, “LORD, bakit wala akong sapatos? Sira na tong sapatos ko… Kailangan ko ng bagong sapatos.” Mangiyak- ngiyak na siya sa awa sa sarili niya. For some reason, napalingon siya sa katabi niya. Ay! Walang paa! ” LORD, maraming salamat po sa mga paa ko… Di ko naman talaga kailangan ng bagong sapatos.”
Yung walang paa naman na katabi ng babae, nag iisip din nung time na yun, “LORD, bakit ganto? Bakit di niyo ako binigyan ng mga paa?” Sobrang awa niya sa sarili niya. For sure, mahirap para sa taong ito ang gumalaw dahil sa kawalan niya ng mg paa. He has all the reason in the world to complain. At for some reason ulit, napalingon siya sa katabi niya. Ay! Walang ulo! Imaginin mo ngayon kung gaanong kasaya siya na mga paa lang ang wala sa kanya.
I don’t know about you, but I really laughed at that joke. Isang maikling kwento na may malalim na moral lesson. You know why we seem to not have anything? It’s because we focus more on the things we do not have. We envy other people for what they have. You do not know how much they envy you for what you have. Let us try counting our blessings, and be overwhelmed on how blessed we are.
As or my shoes, the new one can wait. Uhmm.. let me see… I have 3 pairs of flats, 1 pair of sneakers, 6 pairs of death defying sky high killers heels (Of course, its an overstatement). Actually, I don’t think I need a new one. And oh, I think I should be thanking GOD for my two perfectly functional feet for with out them, I wouldn’t be needing any shoe.
